KWENTO is built by a Filipino family, for Filipino families. We understand the sacred nature of the stories you entrust to us. Your family's memories are precious, and we treat them with the utmost respect and care.
Information We Collect
Audio Recordings
When you record stories using KWENTO, the audio files are:
- Stored locally on your device first
- Optionally synced to our secure cloud storage (Supabase) for backup and family sharing
- Never shared with third parties
- Never used for training AI models
Transcriptions
Your audio is transcribed using ElevenLabs Scribe (primary) or local on-device processing (WhisperKit). Transcriptions are:
- Processed securely and not retained by third-party services beyond the transcription process
- Stored alongside your recordings for your use only
- Deletable at any time along with the associated recording
Account Information
We collect minimal account information:
- Family member names (for identification within your family group)
- Family codes (for secure access)
- No email addresses or phone numbers required for basic use
How We Use Your Information
Your data is used exclusively for:
- Storing and displaying your family's recorded stories
- Generating transcriptions of your recordings
- Enabling family sharing features you explicitly enable
- Improving app performance and reliability (anonymized usage statistics only)
Data Storage and Security
We take your family's privacy seriously:
- Encryption: All data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest
- Secure Infrastructure: We use Supabase, a trusted cloud provider with SOC 2 compliance
- Access Control: Only family members you designate can access your stories
- Data Residency: Your data is stored in secure US-based data centers
Family Sharing
When you share stories with family members:
- You control who can view each recording
- Family members can only access stories explicitly shared with them
- You can revoke access at any time
- Shared stories remain under your ownership and control
Third-Party Services
KWENTO uses the following third-party services:
- Supabase: Secure cloud storage and database
- ElevenLabs: Audio transcription (Tagalog-optimized)
- Apple App Store: App distribution and payments
These services have their own privacy policies, and we have selected them for their strong privacy practices.
Your Rights
You have the right to:
- Access: View all data we hold about you
- Delete: Remove your recordings and account at any time
- Export: Download your stories in standard formats (audio, PDF, text)
- Portability: Take your data with you if you leave KWENTO
Children's Privacy
KWENTO is designed for adults to record family stories. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13. The app may be used to record stories about children (with parental consent) or stories told by elderly family members.
Data Retention
We retain your data for as long as you maintain an active account. If you delete your account:
- All recordings and transcriptions are permanently deleted within 30 days
- Backups are purged within 90 days
- Anonymized usage statistics may be retained for service improvement
Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. We will notify you of any significant changes through the app or via email if you have provided one.
